TTC deploys 600 ambassadors for World Cup 2026

Toronto Transit Commission announces event staff in red jerseys will guide visitors during FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament starting in June.

The Toronto Transit Commission announced Friday that 600 event ambassadors will be deployed across the system to help visitors navigate transit during FIFA World Cup 2026. The ambassadors will wear bright red soccer jerseys branded with "Team TTC 2026" logos to make them easy to identify and will be equipped with iPads featuring translation tools to assist people in different languages.

Positioned in high-traffic areas during the tournament, the ambassadors will answer customer questions, provide directions, and offer other support services. They will be recruited from within TTC ranks through a volunteer programme and will receive training in customer service and support. This deployment will complement an increase in supervisors, special constables, and operators across the system.

The TTC has announced additional service improvements ahead of the tournament, including increased frequency on streetcar routes 509, 511, and 504, bus route 29/929, and enhanced service on subway lines 1 and 2. "With just over 30 days until the tournament kicks off, the TTC is finalising and testing its service plans to ensure residents and visitors can move around the city reliably and efficiently," the transit agency said in a press release.

Toronto is preparing to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors as FIFA World Cup 2026 comes to the city in June. The first World Cup match in Toronto is scheduled for June 12.

This coming weekend will serve as a "full scale dry run" for the TTC as Toronto FC takes on Inter Miami. The transit agency will use this opportunity to stress-test its plans, ensure infrastructure readiness, verify service levels and response times are adequate, and confirm coordination across teams runs smoothly. Lessons from this dry run will be incorporated into further refinements ahead of the tournament's opening match.
