Diet Coke Slushies Are Happening at a Secret Dundas West Spot
Armed, the Dundas West jewellery company, is now serving fluffy frozen Diet Coke slushies in their own cans.
If you've ever wanted to drink a slushie that tastes like your favorite diet cola but with the texture of shaved ice, Desiree Girlato has made that happen. Girlato, owner of the Dundas West jewellery company Armed, decided last summer to launch a line of fluffy frozen Diet Coke slushies served right in their own cans—and yes, they actually work.
"I love Diet Coke, and I was really craving a slushie version," Girlato says. So she bought a machine, played around with the recipe, and now she's got something that genuinely tastes like what you want it to taste like. No weird chemical aftertaste, no syrupy excess.
The slushies aren't marketed as a separate business—they're available at Armed, which means you're getting a jewellery-shopping experience that ends with an unexpectedly good frozen drink. That's very Dundas West: the intersection of retail, food, and lifestyle all happening in one small, deliberate space.
Dundas West has become one of Toronto's most interesting shopping and eating neighborhoods precisely because people here aren't following a formula. They're doing things because they make sense to them—a jeweller who makes slushies fits perfectly. The slushies are still somewhat hard to find if you don't know about them, which is part of the appeal. Dundas West rewards curiosity.
