Several Alberta country artists performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Thursday in an all-Canadian lineup marking 50 years of the Canadian Country Music Association.

The event, titled "Grand Ole Opry: Celebrating 50 Years of the CCMA," was part of the Opry's own 100th-anniversary celebrations and was intended to honour "a community that has helped shape the sound of country music for generations," according to the venue's website. The CCMA said in a news release that the night would highlight the special place Canadian country music holds within the wider country music community.

Alberta performers included Medicine Hat's Terri Clark, an Opry member; Flat Lake's Brett Kissel; Lacombe's Gord Bamford; Grand Prairie's Carolyn Dawn Johnson; and Calgary's Paul Brandt, who is the most awarded male country artist of all time.

Kissel wrote on social media after the show that "standing on that stage is something I'll never take for granted." Brandt posted ahead of the show: "Here's to the music, the history, and the people who keep it going."

W. Brett Wilson, a University of Calgary alum and business figure, attended and shared his view from the audience on social media.
