Calgary's Connie DeSousa and John Jackson are bringing the city's barbecue reputation to national television.
The duo, who have been working together since 1999 and own multiple Calgary restaurants including Charcut and Charcar, will represent Canada on Food Network's new competition series Pitmasters. The six-episode show challenges chef duos from across North America to showcase their BBQ skills through challenges like breaking down a whole hog and cooking four essential BBQ proteins on a rolling schedule.
DeSousa and Jackson are the only Canadian pair in the competition. The judging panel includes chefs Andrew Zimmern, Jess Pryles, and Ernest Servantes, as well as BBQ pitmaster Moe Cason. Winners will take home a $50,000 prize.
DeSousa is no stranger to food television—she made it to the final of Top Chef Canada. Pitmasters premieres Monday, July 13, on Food Network.
