Costco Canada sold over 36.6 million hot dogs last year—just five million short of the entire Canadian population. The retailer announced the number Wednesday on National Hot Dog Day, a statistic that underscores the staying power of its most iconic deal.

The $1.50 hot dog-and-pop combo, which lets customers choose between an all-beef or Polish sausage with a 20-ounce pop (refill included), has remained at that price since the early 1980s. While nearly everything else has fallen prey to inflation over the decades, Costco has held the line.

The combo's future looked uncertain in 2024 after long-time Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti, a vocal advocate for the deal, stepped down. When asked if the price would change, Galanti told Bloomberg it would be "pretty safe for a while"—reflecting Costco's consistency as a core part of its business model. Canadians responding to Costco's social media post pledged to push the numbers higher this year, with one commenter joking, "Those are rookie numbers."
