Several spices sold across Canada are being recalled due to undeclared allergens. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a recall notice Monday, June 29 for various ground spices and spice blends from the brand Salem Foods, which may contain undeclared wheat, sesame, and mustard.

Affected products include Salem Foods Cookies Spices, Ground Cardamom, and Spearmint. All product codes where wheat, sesame, and mustard are not included on the label are impacted.

CFIA health inspection results triggered the recall, and a thorough food safety investigation is now underway, which could see more products recalled. The agency is also verifying that the industry is removing the impacted spices from the market.

So far, there have been no reported reactions associated with consuming the products. The CFIA has urged Canadians to check the products and not consume them if they are allergic or sensitive. Those with celiac disease or other gluten-related issues should also not use the products. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
