Airdrie's Municipal Enforcement team has ramped up traffic safety operations, issuing 1,706 tickets and 562 warnings through early June as part of a comprehensive community safety strategy spanning traffic, animal services, and bylaw enforcement.
During the June 9 Community Safety and Social Services Standing Committee meeting, Municipal Enforcement Team Leader Brad Tomlinson outlined the department's four key priorities: traffic safety and commercial vehicle enforcement, community engagement, animal services, and continued focus on bylaw and provincial statutes.
"Each pillar ties back to broader community safety goals and helps us allocate resources where residents have told us they need the most support," Tomlinson said.
Traffic safety remains the most visible program. Municipal Enforcement continues joint enforcement with the RCMP, ramps up commercial vehicle inspections, and delivers child seat clinics. An e-scooter education campaign launched earlier this year, and the team increased visibility across high-risk corridors to slow speeds and monitor driver behaviour.
In May alone, 577 additional tickets were issued alongside 108 warnings. "On average, 426 tickets have been issued per month," Tomlinson said.
The Airdrie Animal Services Centre, which opened in September 2025, has kennelled 41 animals to date, with 20 brought in since the facility began public access hours. The team — five full-time staff trained in proper animal care — has added grooming tubs, isolation rooms for both dogs and cats, and commercial-grade kennels to reduce disease risk and maintain care standards.
"Overall, the centre continues to grow, and has been well received by our residents, who have dropped off numerous donations," Tomlinson said. The Municipal Enforcement team is also expanding to include a community youth liaison role.
