The Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs, tucked away in northwest Calgary, spans 20 acres and features 30 distinct garden spaces—all maintained entirely by volunteers.

The gardens are open year-round from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 37 Silver Springs Dr. NW, and admission is free.

The vision started with the BirthPlace Forest Initiative, where volunteers planted trees along vacant land originally intended for what is now Stoney Trail. The project expanded into the garden collection now enjoyed by the community. By 2025, the site had grown to 30 gardens with careful plantings suited to Calgary's dry climate.

In summer, expect colourful blooms and curated rose collections. Fall brings bright oranges and yellows. Winter features seasonal ornaments and festive touches. The gardens are dog-friendly, so leashed dogs are welcome on the pathways.

Each visit feels different as colours shift and seasonal details change. What began as an empty stretch of land has become a thriving community space entirely through volunteer dedication.
