Iconic Kensington bistro closes after 20-year run

Niko's Bistro, the intimate Italian spot that has anchored Kensington's dining scene for two decades, is closing its doors under the Miletic family this month, passing the keys to new ownership.

Owner Niko Miletic, who immigrated to Calgary from Dubrovnik in the 1990s and worked his way up from dishwasher to head chef at notable Calgary restaurants, opened Niko's in 2006. The restaurant became a neighborhood institution—the kind of place where regulars celebrated milestones, watched kids grow up, and built genuine friendships with owners who remembered their names.

The Miletic family's final dinner service is set for May 30. In a farewell Instagram post, they reflected on the run: "We cannot begin to thank our loyal community for the tremendous support you have shown us over the years. We have watched your children grow up, celebrated your milestones, and built friendships that we will keep forever."

The good news: the bistro isn't disappearing. Troy Bergfeldt and his family have acquired Niko's and will continue the restaurant under new stewardship, carrying forward the legacy of intimate dining and genuine hospitality that made the place matter to Kensington.
