About 35 people gathered at a Calgary hotel Thursday to formally launch "Let Alberta Decide," a campaign aimed at convincing Albertans to vote for separation in an upcoming referendum.
Organizers promise a serious, fact-based initiative asserting that Alberta possesses the workforce, financial capacity, and energy and agriculture resources to operate independently from Canada.
Keith Wilson, a prominent separatist advocate who debated former Alberta premier Jason Kenney on the topic, is among those behind the campaign.
Premier Danielle Smith announced that on October 19, Albertans will vote on whether to hold a second referendum on leaving Canada. Smith has said hundreds of thousands of Albertans have weighed in on the topic and deserve to be heard. Critics say she is behaving recklessly by appeasing separatist hardliners within her party.
