Alberta Sheriffs will deploy over a dozen officers to help Calgary police patrol and monitor festival tents during the Calgary Stampede, aiming to prevent property damage, public disorder, and excessive intoxication spilling into nearby communities.

Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis announced Monday that the chiefs of both the Alberta Sheriffs and Calgary Police Service will sign a memorandum of understanding this week. The joint team will focus on venues such as Cowboys, ensuring patrons are safe and respectful both inside and outside festival spaces.

"Alberta's government will do whatever it takes to support a safe and fun Stampede this year," Ellis said. The additional officers can be expanded if needed. The announcement comes as the city enforces new noise regulations for festival tents, requiring event noise to not exceed 65 A-weighted decibels after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 50 decibels on weeknights.
