The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after a Calgary police officer fired a weapon during a confrontation Thursday morning in Bridlewood in southwest Calgary.

Police responded to a call of a disturbance and a man with a weapon at the 1000 block of Bridlemeadows Manor S.W. at roughly 1 a.m. When officers arrived, the man had already entered a residence. After officers engaged with him and attempted to take him into custody, he remained inside for roughly two hours.

When the man came outside the residence around 3 a.m., a confrontation occurred that resulted in one officer firing their weapon. The suspect was taken to hospital in critical condition.
