The Calgary Board of Education has kept Laura Hack as board chair for the 2026-27 school year, making it her second consecutive term in the role.
Hack, who represents Wards 3 and 4, was nominated by Trustee Charlene May and acclaimed as the only candidate at the June 23 organizational public board meeting. Jenny Regal, representing Wards 1 and 2, was elected vice-chair after a secret-ballot vote, edging out incumbent Nancy Close.
Trustee Cynthia Cordova said the vote reflected strong governance at the board. "Having multiple qualified candidates reflects healthy democratic governance," she said. "Trustee Regal brings a deep depth of leadership and governance experience that is well suited to the vice-chair role at this important time for the Calgary Board of Education."
Starting September 1, CBE trustees will receive an honorarium of $51,099 per trustee. The board chair receives an additional $12,000 annually, while the vice-chair receives an additional $5,500.
