CTrain strikes pedestrian downtown, victim in critical condition
A 60-year-old man was hit by an LRT train at Centre Street and Seventh Avenue SW on Thursday evening. He remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Police are investigating after a CTrain struck a pedestrian in downtown Calgary on Thursday evening, leaving the victim in critical condition.
At approximately 5:20 p.m., a 60-year-old man was walking southbound on Centre Street approaching Seventh Avenue S.W. when he entered the path of an oncoming LRT train. The train was moving through the intersection on a green signal, according to Calgary police.
The collision pinned the man under the train. Emergency responders extricated him and transported him to hospital in life-threatening condition. Police said speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
This marks another serious incident involving the CTrain system. Pedestrian safety at downtown intersections remains a concern as the city continues to manage heavy foot traffic and LRT operations in close proximity.
