Cultus Lake Waterpark has issued an apology after an electrical incident at its Zero to 60 waterslide injured 12 Minnekhada Middle School students on Monday, sending two by air ambulance and the rest to hospital.
In a letter to parents and school staff, park administrator Andrew Steunenberg said the organization is "deeply saddened and sorry for the tragic accident." RCMP confirmed the incident was electrical in nature but have not specified whether victims were electrocuted. Early indications show no criminality.
The incident occurred when students made contact with a railing at the waterslide. The park is cooperating with Technical Safety BC in an independent investigation to identify the cause. "We understand there are several unanswered questions, and information is limited at this time, but we will be providing regular updates on our website as more information becomes available," Steunenberg said.
The park will remain closed until the investigation concludes and required actions are addressed. The school will receive a refund of admission fees within the week.
