Five men charged in elaborate Edmonton-to-Calgary extortion scheme

Calgary police have charged five men in connection with an elaborate extortion scheme targeting the South Asian community. Last Wednesday evening, an Edmonton man was allegedly kidnapped by four armed suspects after being assaulted and threatened at gunpoint. The victim was forced into a vehicle and driven from Edmonton to Calgary, where suspects staged additional vehicles and personnel at a northeast residence. Police say the scheme represents a serious organized crime threat targeting vulnerable communities.
