Incoming flights to Calgary International Airport were delayed Wednesday afternoon after an aircraft returned to YYC with a suspected tire issue, landing safely.

Calgary Airports issued an afternoon statement saying emergency crews responded as a precaution. Airport teams inspected and swept the West Runway (17R/35L) to ensure no debris remained following the landing.

The East Runway (17L/35R) was closed for scheduled maintenance Wednesday, which contributed to the temporary delays. "With the East Runway closed for scheduled maintenance, the inspection contributed to temporary flight delays this afternoon," Calgary Airports said.

Airport officials noted that sweeping the runway and removing possible debris protected the safety of passengers, crews and aircraft. The West Runway returned to operational status following the inspection.

"The West Runway is now operational again, and we thank everyone for their patience," Calgary Airports said. The authority did not specify the exact time the incident occurred, how long delays lasted, or how many flights and passengers were affected.
