Calgary police are asking anyone victimized in a vehicle resale fraud to come forward as they search for a suspect believed to have purchased high-mileage vehicles, altered their odometers, and resold them with falsified documents.
The investigation began in March 2026 after a victim purchased a 2012 Honda CR-V advertised on Facebook Marketplace. The seller provided a Carfax report showing approximately 169,000 kilometres. After the sale, the buyer obtained a new Carfax report and discovered the vehicle's last recorded mileage was more than 316,000 kilometres—a difference that significantly affected the car's true value. The buyer also found that the proof of insurance provided during the transaction was invalid.
Investigators identified a man using the alias "Zybszek Zebrowski" in connection with the vehicle sale. Evidence linked him to a residence in the 0-100 block of Creekstone Drive S.W. in Pine Creek. On June 20, police executed a search warrant and seized false identification documents, completed bills of sale, cash, and various automotive sale paperwork.
Ivan Kamyshanskyi, 27, is now wanted on a warrant for one count of fraud over $5,000, one count of false pretence over $5,000, and two counts of uttering a forged document.
Police believe Kamyshanskyi systematically purchased vehicles with higher mileage, altered vehicle records, and resold them to unsuspecting buyers. "When someone manipulates a vehicle's mileage, they're not just misrepresenting the value of the vehicle, they're undermining a buyer's ability to make an informed decision about its safety, condition and worth," police said.
Anyone with information about Kamyshanskyi's whereabouts or who believes they may have been victimized is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
