Canadians who purchased or consumed Silk or Great Value plant-based refrigerated beverages recalled in July 2024 have until Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. PST to file claims in a $7.5 million settlement. The deadline is a hard stop—claims filed after that date will not be accepted.

The outbreak, traced to Listeria monocytogenes contamination, occurred between August 2023 and mid-July 2024. Public Health Agency of Canada announced the recall on July 8, 2024, affecting products manufactured by Joriki Inc. and sold under the Silk and Great Value labels. The contamination resulted in three deaths, 20 reported illnesses, and 15 hospitalizations across Canada.

Danone Canada and Walmart Canada have agreed to the settlement while denying all allegations and any wrongdoing or liability. The lawsuit, filed by LPC Avocats in 2024, alleged the recalled beverages posed "a safety risk" to consumers and that defendants were negligent in how they managed recall programs.

Eligible claimants include anyone who purchased or consumed the recalled products, as well as successors, family members, and dependents of those who experienced harm. Compensation varies by severity and duration of symptoms:

- Symptoms lasting up to 48 hours: $400 - Symptoms lasting more than 48 hours up to one week: $1,500 - Symptoms lasting longer than one week without hospitalization: $7,000 - Hospitalization lasting more than one week with no complications or permanent symptoms: at least $10,000 to maximum $30,000 - Symptoms lasting more than one week with hospitalization, severe complications or permanent symptoms: maximum $150,000 - Death: up to $300,000

Claims administrator Concilia is handling the process. Eligible claimants must file online through Concilia's portal. The latest best-before date on recalled products was October 4, 2024.
