One of four people quarantined in British Columbia has tested positive for the Andes strain of hantavirus following the MV Hondius cruise ship outbreak. Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed the case in a Victoria resident who had been under an isolation order since arriving at Victoria International Airport on May 10. Two other patients—a couple in their 70s from the Yukon—and a fourth person in their 50s from elsewhere in B.C. remain in isolation as health authorities continue monitoring the situation.
