Police seized guns, weapons, illicit drugs and approximately $100,000 in cash during a recent enforcement operation in Penticton and Oliver, according to the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia.

The Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) was deployed to the South Okanagan in early August to assist with proactive policing in the region. After patrolling Penticton's Peach Festival, officers shifted part of their focus to supporting emergency response efforts as wildfires threatened Summerland and surrounding communities on August 7.

Working alongside the Penticton RCMP's Crime Reduction Unit, officers targeted suspected criminal activity while maintaining a visible law enforcement presence during wildfire operations.

During the operation, police seized approximately 2.5 kilograms of illicit drugs, including fentanyl, cocaine and crystal methamphetamine. Officers also recovered four firearms, 16 weapons and one vehicle. The weapons seized included knives, a baton, a conducted energy weapon, a compound bow and a crossbow.

"While supporting the wildfire response in Penticton, our officers remained focused on public safety, working alongside our policing partners to remove firearms, weapons and significant quantities of illicit drugs from the community," said Sarbjit K. Sangha, media relations officer for CFSEU-BC.

Police did not release information about any arrests or charges related to the seizures.
