Friday night's yours—live music, long daylight, grab it.
8 degrees, sunshine till after 10 PM, and the city's got shows lined up. Here's what you need.
It's Friday morning and you've got nearly 17 hours of daylight to work with—sunset doesn't hit until 10:03 PM, so don't rush the evening. Temperature's sitting at 8, which means layering still wins, but the UV's high at 6.0, so throw on sunscreen if you're spending the day outside. Perfect weather to lean into an actual evening once work's done.
If you're heading anywhere on the southwest side, Routes 668 and 727 have planned detours around Desrochers and Heritage Valley Trail, so add a few minutes if that's your way home. Same heads-up for Route 914—there's detours running in both directions around 178th to 184th Street and 84th to 89th Avenue. Nothing massive, but good to know before you're stuck in it.
Locally, there's some movement worth clocking. City Hall's launching the Edmonton Advantage to try and court new business here—the pitch is basically that E-town's got what companies need, and they're making a real play for it. Over in Sherwood Park, those heavy rains lately have been stress-testing the stormwater system, which is the kind of infrastructure thing nobody thinks about until it matters. Meanwhile, community leagues just caught a break—they're off the hook for stormwater bills going forward, which frees up real money for local sports and programs.
If you're thinking lunch or dinner, Cactus Club's brought back their summer menu and Frosé is back in the mix—plus smash burgers at $9 if you want to keep it simple and cheap. Station Park's food hall is back open with rotating vendors, so if you haven't checked it since it reopened, it's worth a wander. There's also ice cream stops around the city worth hitting on a day like this, and Clementine's got tropical summer cocktails built for exactly the temperature and daylight you've got right now.
Tonight's where it gets real. You've got K-POP Superstars at the Midway at 4 PM if you want to start early, or Napalm Death at the Starlite Room at 6:30 if you're leaning into something heavier. That's a full lineup with Primitive Man, Culled, and Dying Remains backing them up. This is the kind of Friday night the city does well—live music, energy, people out. Pick your vibe and go.
Up at the U of A, the Spring Convocation's happening at the Jube this morning if you've got someone graduating.
Get out tonight. The daylight's generous, the city's got shows, and you've earned it.
Enjoy the evening.
