Rain's Rolling In—Catch the Elks, Then Head Inside

Morning, E-town. It's 12°C and a rainfall warning's already up, so pack layers and don't count on the sunshine sticking around. We've got seventeen hours of daylight though, which means the sun won't set until just after 10 PM—plenty of evening left even if the clouds roll in early. UV's low at 2.0, so you're not getting burned today anyway.

If you're heading anywhere, just know the rain's the story. No major transit disruptions to dodge, but wet pavement being wet pavement, give yourself a bit of extra time if you're driving.

Couple of things worth a read this week: the city's been fielding dozens of calls about faded road markings—some folks saying they can barely see the lines anymore. Nothing that's going to ruin your Saturday, but worth knowing if you're noticing it too. Also, council's been pushing the conversation around mandatory speed limiters in vehicles, which'll take a while to shake out, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

For lunch or dinner, you've got some solid new spots to try. Live Bowl'd just opened a permanent place on Whyte Avenue if you're in the mood for something fresh, and Okie Dokie Smokies has been raising the bar on the hot dog game if you want something quick and excellent. If you're thinking ahead to next week, Marugame Udon's heading into the Mall, so that's coming soon.

Now, the fun part: the Elks are home today at Commonwealth Stadium taking on Montreal at 2 PM. It's a daytime kick, so you can catch the game and still have the whole evening ahead of you. Bring a rain jacket and settle in.

Once the sun's down (10:07 PM, mark it), there's live music and comedy scattered around the city. You've got jazz at Yardbird Suite with the Charley Rose Trio at 7, comedy at Rick Bronson's with Malik B at the same time, and if you're more in the mood for indie or alternative, Pastel Blank and the Nora Kelly Band are at the Starlite Room at 7, with SHEBAD coming on later at 7:30. All indoor, which honestly feels smart given what's outside.

Rain or shine, you've got a solid Saturday. Get outside for the game if you're into it, then duck inside for some live music or comedy when the weather gets proper wet.

Stay dry out there.
