Saturday's Warm Stretch: Rain's Coming, but There's Indoor Fun Waiting
16°C and clear skies this morning, but watch for rain later. Jazz, comedy, and Harry Potter symphonies on tap tonight.
Morning—it's Saturday and you've got a genuinely pleasant start to the day. 16°C is a solid shoulder-season feel after the stretch of cooler weather, so if you're heading out early, you're golden. Sun's staying with you till just after 10 PM, which means plenty of daylight to work with. Fair warning though: there's a rainfall warning in effect, so rain's definitely on the way. Plan your outdoor moves for daytime and have your evening indoors locked in.
If you're using transit, keep an eye on Routes 504 and 917—both have planned detours running today. Route 504's rerouting from 39 Street over at 76 Avenue, and 917's got a couple of segments affected around WEM and the Whitemud area. Nothing that'll wreck your day, but worth knowing if you're heading out that way.
A couple of things worth the read this morning: someone out there forgot about a lottery ticket and came back to it a million dollars richer, and up Lacombe way, a Lotto Max winner just hit $15 million—and he's keeping his pink beard. Life moves fast. Closer to home, the Stelmach Community Health Centre just opened in southeast Edmonton, which is solid news if that's your neighbourhood.
For lunch or dinner, there's a restaurant putting on a fundraiser for Venezuela Earthquake Relief if you want your meal to do some good. And if you're curious about grilling, skirt steak's having its moment—worth learning how to do it right if that's your weekend plan.
This evening's got real options. If live music is calling, you've got jazz stacked—François Bourassa Quartet at the Yardbird, Pasquale Grasso at JazzClub at the Chateau Lacombe at 7:30, and earlier in the day, a tribute to Sidney Bechet at the same spot at 2 PM if you want an afternoon set. Over at Rick Bronson's, Drew Dunn's doing comedy at 7. And if you're taking the family route, The Magical Music Of Harry Potter is on at the Winspear at 2 PM—kids love it, and honestly, so do adults.
With rain rolling in, staying indoors for the evening is the call. Catch a set, grab a drink, settle in. You've earned it.
Stay dry out there.
