Friday's golden hour — live music, sun, and 16 hours of daylight.

Fifteen degrees and climbing, with a UV index sitting at 6 — that's high enough to earn your sunscreen if you're planning to spend the afternoon out. The good news: we've got nearly 17 hours of daylight today, and sunset's not till 10:05 PM, so there's real time to play with. Perfect weather to grab some sun at a neighbourhood park before the evening kicks off.

If you're heading downtown or out to the river valley this weekend, know that the trails took a proper beating in June — the month shattered a 112-year rainfall record, and the water levels are still elevated. St. Albert's dealing with rising Sturgeon River water too, so keep an eye on conditions if you're heading that way. Should settle down as the week goes on, but worth a heads-up.

There's real food energy in the air. KDays is rolling with 50-plus new creations this year if you're feeling the midway, and the green onion cake scene across the city keeps getting better — everything from flaky to pillowy depending where you land. If you're after something lighter, mocktails are having a moment, and there's a new soda spot opening on Whyte in early August worth keeping on your radar. Hotdogs are back on Rice Howard too if you want to keep it simple.

This evening's got options depending on your mood. A$AP Rocky's the headline at Rogers Place at 8:30 PM if you want the main event. Blackhawk's playing the Midway at 7:00 PM if you're leaning live music and a bit more low-key. Or if you just want to sit with a beer and watch the sky stay light till late, that works just as fine.

On the Canada Day side of things, the Nations Cup rugby matches start tomorrow at Clarke Stadium — Canada's got matches on the 4th and 11th at 6:00 PM if you're keen to catch them.

One other thing: there was a second break-in at a North Edmonton collectible store in 10 months, and a traffic stop in the city led to charges of extortion and conspiracy to commit murder. Nothing that changes your day, but worth knowing what's happening around you.

Get out there and enjoy the daylight while it's around. Summer doesn't stay this golden forever.
