Saturday heat, live music, and a rock festival — get out there.

Morning's pleasant — 16 and climbing, with a high UV of 7, so sunscreen's not a bad idea if you're spending the afternoon outside. You've got nearly 17 hours of daylight today, which means sunset isn't till 10 PM tonight. Plan accordingly if you're heading out for an evening event.

If you're using the LRT or the bus, keep an eye on a few route changes. The 201 has a planned detour running from 101 St around to Jasper Ave westbound. The 411's got a detour swinging through downtown from 98 Ave, and the 071 is rerouted at Stadium TC. Nothing catastrophic, but worth knowing if those are your regular lines.

On the serious side: there's a ghost bike memorial up in Mill Woods now for a cyclist killed in a collision — worth remembering as you move around the city. There's also an ongoing police search for a suspect in a river valley sexual assault; if you've got information, the service wants to hear from you.

If you're hungry, there's a heap of new spots worth exploring this summer, and if you're in the mood to cook, hanger steak's having a moment — worth learning how to grill one at home. The farmers market's still going strong too, and Pasta Delight's getting the nod from people who know food.

Now, the fun stuff. Rockin' Thunder's running all day at the Exhibition Lands Racetrack starting at 1 PM — Three Days Grace, Creed, and the rest of the lineup if that's your speed. If rock's not your thing, the Stingers are hosting Vancouver at the EXPO Centre at 7 PM for some pro lacrosse. Or if you want something quieter, the Citadel's got The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on tonight at 7:30, or catch the afternoon show at 1:30 if you'd rather get out earlier. There's also live indie music at the Buckingham — No Idea with The Seasonal Hires at 5 PM if you want something more laid-back.

With the sun staying up till 10, you've got time to do more than one thing. Grab brunch, catch some daylight, and still make an evening show. It's a good Saturday for it.

Stay safe out there.
