Friday heat and live music — the weekend's already started
18 degrees, Neon Skies firing up tonight, and the Elks are home. You're sorted.
Morning. It's 18°C and warming into the afternoon — a solid summer Friday after the week we've had. The sun's sticking around until nearly 10 PM, so you've got a proper long evening ahead. UV's sitting at 7, which is high, so if you're outside for lunch or catching the game tonight, sunscreen isn't a luxury move.
Getting around: There's some LRT work happening this morning on the northwest side. Stop #1147 northbound on 100 Street near Churchill is closed, and there's a couple more stops out on the same line (#1804 westbound, #1321 northbound). Route 002 is detoured from 87 and Jasper east over to 82 and 112 north if that's your usual path. Nothing that'll wreck your day, but worth knowing if you're heading that way early.
There's some real stories this week worth a heads-up. The city's been looking hard at a Grovvenor Airbnb that was supposed to be affordable housing — that one's still rolling. And if you're in northeast Edmonton, ATCO's been restoring gas service after a fatal fire shut things down; that's mostly sorted now but worth checking if you're in that zone.
If you're thinking lunch, there's a bunch happening. Holy Shakes is running National Ice Cream Day deals come Sunday at their Edmonton spots — that's worth circling. And if you've been meaning to try the new rooftop patio at the historic Crawford Building downtown, the views are meant to be panoramic. There's also someone taking on Edmonton's donair scene if you want to read into what's good — local food blogger Ramneek Singh's been doing the work.
Tonight's got options. The Elks are home against BC at Commonwealth at 7 PM if football's your thing. Music people should be looking at Neon Skies over at the ICE District — Conan Gray, Myles Smith, and Natasha Bedingfield starting at 5:45. If you want comedy instead, the Great Outdoors Festival is running at Kinsmen Park (18+), same time. Theatre crowd can catch The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Citadel at 7:30.
With the sun not dropping until 9:53, whatever you pick — stadium, festival, or patio — you've got real daylight to work with. Pick your Friday mood and run with it.
Stay sorted.
