Saturday's warm and loaded — music, comedy, and the Oil rolling.
21 degrees, clear skies, and a city full of plans. Here's what you need.
It's a proper summer Saturday in E-town. We're looking at 21 degrees and feeling warmer — the UV's running high at 7, so slap on sunscreen if you're heading outside. You've got just over 16 hours of daylight, and sunset won't come until 9:52 p.m., which means tonight's got legs. Make the most of it.
If you're catching the LRT today, watch for some detours on Routes 701 and 902. Route 701's got planned diversions both northbound and southbound in the downtown core, and 902 is rerouting eastbound from University TC. Nothing catastrophic, but plan a couple extra minutes if you're heading that way.
On the local front: the Elks are rolling. They just went to 5-1 after dropping the Lions 19-17 yesterday, and yeah, BC's Nathan Rourke took a hit in that one. Meanwhile, the team at Telus World of Science — over 100 staff — got emergency relief after the flooding closure. Good to see the community showing up for them. And if you're paying attention to the news landscape, heads are turning over the Global Edmonton layoffs and the move of some control-room work to Toronto. Local newsmaking just got a little quieter.
Food-wise, it's a weekend to eat. KDays is still happening at the Expo Centre, and the vendors are bringing the heat — salmon tacos, deep-fried cheese curds, and if you're feeling wild, liquid-nitrogen ice cream. If you're feeling fancier, Taste of Edmonton's got standout buns worth trying: lobster rolls, smashburgers, the whole riff. And if you've got your eye on a new rooftop patio, there's a fresh one up on the historic Crawford Building with panoramic views across the city. That's the kind of spot worth a Saturday evening.
Tonight's stacked. Kesha's headlining Neon Skies over at the Ice District starting at 5:45 p.m. — Slayyyter and Heidi Montag are on the bill too if you want the full lineup. It's music-festival energy right downtown. If comedy's more your speed, the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival is running at Kinsmen Park at 1 p.m., and there's live theatre too: *Clue* at the Jube at 2 p.m., and *The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee* over at the Citadel. Meanwhile, KDays has its own music fest running at the Expo Centre all afternoon. You can eat, laugh, and catch live music without leaving the city — that's the Edmonton Saturday right there.
Get outside. The weather's doing you a solid, and there's too much happening to waste it.
