Heat warning Friday — Post Malone's coming tonight

Alright, it's hot out there. 15 degrees doesn't sound like the deep freeze, but with a heat warning live, you'll feel it. UV's running high at 7.0, so if you're outside for any stretch today, sunscreen isn't optional—it's the move. The good news: the wildfire smoke that was choking the air is finally gone. The other good thing? Sunset's not till 9:44 PM, which means you've got over 16 hours of daylight to work with. That's a lot of evening left when the sun finally quits.

If you're heading northwest, know that part of 137th Avenue has collapsed over Horseshoe Creek, so flag that if it's on your usual route. Plan around it.

On the local radar: the city's been hammering down on animals left in hot cars—37 complaints came in over seven weeks. Don't be that person. Also worth knowing: there's new Ukrainian street food hitting Station Park in Old Strathcona now at Bazaar, and Greg Sweeney's HOM Street Food has taken over the kitchen at Bibo's on Whyte Avenue if you're looking to switch things up. Coliseum Steak & Pizza is marking 50 years in Parkdale too, if that's your lane. Downtown's seen some closures since early June, but there's still plenty of spots firing.

Tonight's the main event, and it's busy. Post Malone's running the BIG ASS Stadium Tour at Commonwealth Stadium—that's the headliner, with Jelly Roll and Carter Faith on the bill. If that's not your scene, KDays is still going strong out at the Expo Centre with Noah Cyrus on tonight, or there's Josh Johnson at the Winspear if you want something quieter. Sports fans can catch the Riverhawks taking on Kelowna at RE/MAX Field at 7:05 PM.

Weather-wise, you're looking at clear(ish) evening with that heat still hanging around, so if you're headed out to the stadium or anywhere outside, bring water and plan for the sun to be around for ages. It's a Friday, the weekend's kicking off, and there's enough happening to match whatever mood you're in.

Stay cool out there.
