Sunday's warm — catch baseball, comedy, live music around town

Morning, E-town. It's Sunday and you've got time — 13°C and high UV (that's 7.0, so sunscreen if you're out for a while), with full daylight stretching till 9:41 PM tonight. Perfect for getting outside.

A couple of heads-up on getting around: Whitemud Drive is shut down after Saturday night's storm flooded it pretty badly. If that's your usual route anywhere south or west, plan around it. You've also got a few transit detours in play — Route 523 from Scona Rd, Routes 051 and 902 around the Groat Rd area, and Route 002 on the east side along Jasper Ave. Nothing catastrophic, but check ahead if you're counting on those.

There's some real stuff happening around the city worth paying attention to. Part of 137th Avenue collapsed over Horseshoe Creek up northwest — infrastructure stuff that matters. Downtown's still dealing with that abandoned construction pit getting worse with water and overgrowth — safety headache nobody wants. And if you've been watching the housing thing, homeowners across Edmonton are filing restrictive covenants to block infill multi-unit projects. That conversation's not going anywhere quiet.

Food-wise, there's some good action if you're hungry. Bazaar just brought Ukrainian street food to Station Park over in Old Strathcona — worth a walk if perogies and proper food are on your mind. On Whyte, Greg Sweeney's HOM Street Food has taken over Bibo's kitchen, so there's something new to try on the Ave. And if you haven't been in a while, Coliseum Steak & Pizza in Parkdale just hit 50 years — that's worth a nod.

For the afternoon, the Riverhawks are home at RE/MAX Field at 1:05 PM against Kelowna — baseball on a Sunday, can't complain. That's a daytime thing with the sun high and the weather decent.

Tonite's got real options if you're heading out. Nate Bargatze's doing stand-up at Rogers Place at 7:00 PM — that's solid comedy if you're in the mood to laugh. The Beaches are at the EXPO Centre at 7:30 PM if you want live music. And there's Afrikaans is Lekker happening at Midway Music Hall starting at 4:00 PM if you want something a bit different earlier in the day. All indoor, so weather's not a factor.

Enjoy the light and the warmth while it's here. See you out there.
