Friday heat and live music — your weekend starts now.

Morning, E-town. We're looking at 13°C and plenty of daylight to burn — you've got nearly 16 hours before sunset at 9:32 PM, so plan your evening out. UV's running high at 6 today, so if you're spending time outside this afternoon, the usual sunscreen rules apply. Nice day to be out.

Nothing major tying up your commute this morning, so you're good to move.

On the serious side: police are warning that a St. Albert man's been charged with sexually assaulting minors, and they're asking the public's help tracking down possible additional victims if you've got information. Also flagging that Edmonton homicide investigators are still hunting a suspect who fled in two torched vehicles — if you've seen anything, police need to hear from you. And a sentence came down this week in the 1996 murder of Cree woman Joanne Ghostkeeper — life in prison for the conviction. These are the stories worth knowing.

For dinner, you've got some solid options. Bazaar just landed at Station Park in Old Scona with Ukrainian street food — worth a walk if that's calling you. Over on Whyte, Greg Sweeney's HOM Street Food has taken over the kitchen at Bibo's, so if you've been wanting to try it, that's your spot now. And if you're in the mood for something that's stood the test of time, Coliseum Steak & Pizza is marking 50 years in the Parkdale neighbourhood — solid place to land on a Friday night.

Sports are on tonight: the Stingers take on Saskatoon Mamba at the EXPO Centre at 7:00 PM. If you want to catch some live basketball courtside, that's your play.

Music's happening too. The Starlite Room's got a double header going down — Second Mirror and Mya Hill Band with Mutton Wolf in the Temple, doors at 7:00 PM. If alt rock and heavier stuff are more your speed, Heavenscoldhands is playing the main room at the same time with Contain, Serration, Awaywithroses, and Seven Crown. Over at Midway Music Hall, Bingo Loco's running both a straight bingo night and a Name That Song session starting at 6:00 PM if you want something a little different.

It's Friday — the weather's decent, the sun's staying up late, and there's plenty to do. Get out there and have a good one.

Stay sorted.
