Monday morning — mild start, transit shifts, and some real news to know

Morning. It's a soft one out there — 14 degrees and sunny, which means you can probably ditch the jacket for the commute. UV's running at 5.0, so if you're spending time outside, the usual precautions apply. Sun's not setting until 9:13 tonight, so you've got a proper evening to work with once work's done.

A heads-up on the LRT side: Route 909 has a couple of planned detours running today — one going north between 161 and 156 on 109/110, and another heading westbound on 154. If that's part of your regular route, give yourself a bit of buffer. Route 513 is also rerouted out of Mill Woods, so if you're heading that way, check your usual stop.

There's some heavy stuff in the news this morning. RCMP are investigating the death of a 12-year-old boy found north of the city — a real tragedy for the whole community. On the health side, there's a tuberculosis outbreak spreading in Edmonton's inner city with 12 cases confirmed so far, which is worth staying aware of if you're in those areas or know people who are.

On a lighter note, if you've been craving something different for lunch or dinner, there's some good food news. Lingnan's has been anchoring family dinners around E-town for over 70 years with their egg rolls — a real institution if you haven't hit it yet. And if you're keen on trying something new, Bazaar is bringing Ukrainian street food to Station Park in Old Strathcona, and Greg Sweeney's HOM Street Food just took over the kitchen at Bibo's on Whyte, so there's some fresh energy on the Ave if you're looking to explore.

Tim Hortons is also rolling out a Harry Potter menu starting Tuesday if that's your speed — might be worth a stop if you've got little ones or you're just feeling it.

For tonight, if you're after something to do, Chiodos is playing at Pawn Shop Live (used to be Union Hall) at 7 with 156/Silence opening. It's the only real live event on the board today, so if alt-rock's your lane, that's your play. Inside venue, so the mild weather won't matter.

Have a solid day out there.
