Thursday's smooth moves and transit detours ahead
Mild morning, a few bus reroutes to dodge, and Daniel Caesar tonight if you're after some R&B.
Morning's sitting at 9°C — grab a jacket but don't overdo it. Sun's with us till just after 9 tonight, so you've got solid daylight through the commute and beyond. UV's a solid 5, so if you're out for lunch or the afternoon, the usual precautions apply.
Bus-wise, a couple of planned detours to know about. Routes 913 and 902 both have reroutes running today around the Groat Road and west side, so if you're catching either one, give yourself a few extra minutes or check ahead. Also—weird one—there was a guy changing tires in the middle of the Henday earlier, so keep your eyes open if you're heading that way during commute time.
A couple of things in the news worth knowing. Two RCMP officers have been cleared in separate use-of-force incidents involving First Nations individuals. Also, the school board just corrected their numbers on complexity-funded teaching positions—it's 36, not the 52 that got reported before. Pay attention to those kinds of corrections; they matter for what's actually happening in the classroom.
If you're thinking lunch or dinner, there's some good news in the food world. Tim Hortons just brought a Harry Potter menu to Canadian locations, so if that's your thing, it's here as of yesterday. More seriously, if you're craving Ukrainian street food, Bazaar just opened in Station Park over in Old Strathcona—worth a walk if the weather holds. Greg Sweeney's HOM Street Food has also taken over the kitchen at Bibo's on Whyte if you want to check that out. And if you're in the mood for something with staying power, Lingnan's has been serving Edmonton families with their egg rolls for over 70 years—that kind of track record says something.
Tonight's the move if you're after some energy. Daniel Caesar and 070 Shake are at Rogers Place at 7:30—smooth R&B vibes, and the crowd's always good for that kind of show. It'll be indoors, so weather's not a factor, and you've got plenty of daylight before doors.
Get sorted, stay warm enough, and have a good one out there.
