Friday's got fog, live music, and wrestling — pick your vibe.
Cool morning ahead, three live shows tonight, and a couple of local stories worth your time.
It's Friday — time to shake off the week. We're waking up to 9°C and a fog advisory in effect, so take it slow if you're heading out early. Visibility's the thing to watch this morning, but the cloud'll lift as we go. You've got a solid 14 hours and 54 minutes of daylight to work with, and sunset lands at 9:05 PM, so there's plenty of evening left once work wraps.
If the LRT or bus is your route downtown or heading west across the city, keep an eye on Route 005 — there's planned detours running between 95 St and 124 St on both the southbound and northbound runs. Same goes for Route 002 heading southbound around 82 St, and Route 001B westbound at 97 St. Nothing's shut down, just rerouted, but give yourself a minute if you're timing a connection.
On the local side: the city's confirmed that the Israel protest at Heritage Festival earlier this month was constitutionally protected — that one's settled. And if you've been thinking about water and where Alberta's headed long-term, the province just budged $400,000 to study our supply situation as demand keeps climbing down south. Closer to home, there's also a tornado watch for eastern Alberta through tonight, so keep an ear open if you're heading that direction.
For dinner, you've got some solid options. Lingnan's has been anchoring Edmonton family tables for over 70 years with their egg rolls — that's a Friday night move if ever there was one. If you're feeling Ukrainian, Bazaar just landed at Station Park over in Old Strathcona with street food that's worth the trip. And if Whyte Ave's calling, Greg Sweeney's HOM Street Food just took over the kitchen at Bibo's, so there's fresh energy on the Ave.
Tonite's got three live shows worth your time. Top Talent Wrestling fires up at Midway Music Hall at 6:00 PM if you're in the mood for the squared circle. Over at the Starlite Room at 7:00, Divine Apprehension & Caustic Fog are bringing their Western Obliteration Tour with Mudcrab and Lacerator — that's the heavy end of things. And if you want something mellower, Caamp's at the Jube at 7:30 PM for some folk-indie vibes. All of it's downtown or close to it, so you can stack your evening however it fits.
Stay dry in that fog this morning, and enjoy the weekend kickoff. See you around.
