Saturday cool-down: Game day, live music, and a full evening ahead.

We've dropped back into proper August cool this morning—8°C and a fair bit fresher than the last stretch. You'll want a layer if you're heading out early, but the sun's with us all day and into the evening (sunset's at 9:03 PM, so there's real time to play with). UV's running at 5, so sunscreen still matters if you're sitting in the stands.

If you're driving around the south side or heading east-west on 114 Avenue or 112 Avenue, Route 101 has a few planned detours in play today. Nothing major, but worth knowing if you're timing a trip. Give yourself a couple extra minutes if you're crossing those corridors.

The Elks are home this afternoon at Commonwealth Stadium—Toronto Argonauts kick off at 1 PM. It's a solid day to be out there, and with that daylight running late, you've got a full window if you want to grab food or a walk after. This time of year in E-town, a Saturday game day is hard to beat.

For dinner, there's proper food worth chasing down. If you haven't tried Bazaar yet, they've landed Ukrainian street food over at Station Park in Old Strathcona—that's a real draw if you're in the mood for something with some backbone. Greg Sweeney's HOM Street Food has taken over the kitchen at Bibo's on Whyte, too, if you're looking to stay on the Ave. And if you're feeling nostalgic, Lingnan's egg rolls have been feeding Edmonton families for over 70 years—that's the kind of anchor worth respecting.

For tonight, you've got options. Killswitch Engage is playing River Cree out past the Henday at 7 PM if you're after heavier live rock. Or if you want something closer and a bit more intimate, Meltt's at The Starlite Room at 8 PM. Both will run you into the early morning if you're keen. The weather stays cool but clear, so either way works—just bring a jacket if you're heading out after dark.

Saturday in Edmonton: game, food, live music, and a good long evening. Not a bad shape to be in.
