Wednesday's a warm one—15 and clear before the evening show
Transit detours downtown, but the sun's out and the Starlite's got live music tonight.
Morning, YEG. You've caught a warmer day—15 degrees and high UV (that's a 6), so if you're out between now and sunset at 8:54 PM, sunscreen's actually doing work today. Last few days felt cooler, so this one's a gift. You've still got solid daylight to play with—nearly fourteen and a half hours of it.
If you're heading downtown or catching the LRT, Route 001A's got planned detours running from 101 St & 101A Ave northbound through to 97 St & 103A Ave, and again heading back west on the same stretch. Route 001B's also rerouted 97 St & 103A Ave westbound to 101 St & 103 Ave southbound. It's not a disaster, but factor in a few extra minutes if you're timing it tight—nothing's closed outright, just shuffled around.
There's some harder news worth knowing. A 16-year-old, Jazmin Dhesi, was killed in a northeast Edmonton shooting this past Sunday. It's a reminder of something that's been weighing on the city—opioid deaths among young people are mounting, and an Alberta judge has been pushing for involuntary treatment options as part of the conversation. It's the kind of thing that sits with you.
On a lighter note, if you're thinking lunch or dinner, there's some solid moves. Lingnan's has been anchoring Edmonton family tables with their egg rolls for over seventy years—worth the stop if you haven't been in a while. If Old Scona's your zone, Bazaar just landed Ukrainian street food over at Station Park, and Greg Sweeney's HOM Street Food has taken over Bibo's kitchen on Whyte if you want something fresh there.
Tonight's got a live show worth your time if you're up for it. Weapon world's playing The Starlite Room with Herb and Creeping Chill & Cranial Spewage—alt-rock crowd, doors at 8 PM. Weather's mild enough to get there comfortable, and you'll be wrapped up with time to spare before late night kicks in.
The Edmonton Marathon also put out an apology this week after discovering their race courses ran 674.7 metres too long. Not the kind of news you want if you were banking on a certain time, but at least they owned it.
Get out if you can today—the warmth and light won't last forever around here, and a Wednesday like this one's something to use.
