Friday Heat and Football — Pick Your Vibe

Morning. It's 12 degrees and climbing — warm for late August, and the UV's sitting at 6, which is high, so if you're outside much today bring the sunscreen. You've got till 8:50 PM to play with; lots of daylight left after work.

Nothing major slowing down your commute this morning, so you're clear to move.

Couple things worth knowing as you head into the weekend. If you ran the Edmonton Marathon and qualified for Boston, heads up — there was a course error, but you can still apply despite it, so don't let that stop you. Also catching people's attention: school bus fees are jumping to $70 a month as operating costs climb. And if you've got a taste for Ukrainian street food, Bazaar just landed at Station Park in Old Strathcona — worth a look if you're heading over to the Ave this weekend.

For lunch or dinner, you've got some solid options. Lingnan's has been anchoring family dinners in E-town for over 70 years with their egg rolls — a proper institution if you haven't been. And if you're looking for patio time before summer's actually gone, there are six spots around the city worth hitting while the weather holds. Tim Hortons also just dropped a Harry Potter menu across Canada if that's your speed.

Tonight's the real call. The Elks are home at Commonwealth Stadium taking on Winnipeg at 7:30 — perfect Friday night if you want to catch some CFL. If football's not your thing, live music is out: Dempsey Bolton's playing the Starlite Room at 8 with Alicia Lov and Fin McDowell, or you could head to Midway for Bop To The Top at 8:30. Want to dance it out? Thunder From Down Under's at River Cree at 9. You've got options, and with the sun staying out till close to 9, you can catch dinner somewhere with a patio and still have time to move into the evening.

Weather's on your side all day — enjoy the warmth while it lasts. See you out there.
