Friday's got metal, country, and a full slate to kick off the weekend

Morning. It's a Friday and the weather's playing nice — 13°C and sunshine, UV index sitting at 5.0, so you'll want the sunscreen if you're spending the day out. We've got nearly 14 hours of daylight, which means sunset's not till 8:33 PM, so plenty of time to do whatever you're planning after work.

One heads-up on Route 431: there's a planned detour from Dawson and Donnely heading north, rerouting around to Clover Bar and Jubilee. If that's part of your way home or into the Ice District tonight, give yourself a bit of buffer.

Couple things worth your attention this week. Alberta's pushing hard on data centres, but there's real public skepticism brewing — water use is the sticking point, and that's being hashed out in town halls as we speak. Also, Treaty 6 First Nations are actively fighting an Alberta referendum over separation concerns tied to treaty rights. Both worth knowing where the conversation's heading.

If you're thinking dinner, Bazaar's brought Ukrainian street food into Station Park over in Old Strathcona — worth a look if you want something different. And if you're the type who loves a solid family spot with history, Lingnan's been anchoring Edmonton dining with egg rolls for over 70 years; that's the kind of place that's earned its reputation.

Now, here's where tonight gets interesting. You've got options depending on your mood. If you're into metal, Hatebreed's playing at Pawn Shop Live (formerly Union Hall) with Terror, Incantation, Gates To Hell, and a few more bands on the bill — doors at 4:00 PM. If you want something a bit lighter, Bingo Loco's doing Name That Song over at Midway Music Hall at 5:00 PM. And if country's your lane, Boots and Hearts is running this weekend in the Ice District, with Russell Dickerson and others firing it up starting at 3:00 PM at Fan Park.

Weekend's shaping up solid — metal, country, comedy all running through Sunday. You've got the pick of the litter.

Stay warm out there. See you tonight.
