Monday's a slow roll — here's what you need.

It's 9°C out there, so grab a layer — the kind of early-fall Monday that feels like it could go either way. UV's sitting at 4, which means sunburn's still possible if you're out for a while, but we're past that summer intensity. Sunset's at 7:52, so you've got a decent evening window if you need one. Good day for a walk, especially before the sun drops.

If you're taking Route 432 anywhere near Bethel or Sherwood Park, heads up — there's planned detours running both directions today. Nothing major, but worth knowing if that's your usual corridor. The rest of the commute should be straightforward.

A few things happening in the city you should know about. Cal Nichols, the Edmonton businessman who basically saved the Oilers from packing up and leaving back in the day, passed away at 84. That's a big loss for the hockey community here — the kind of story that matters to how this place got where it is. There was also a serious incident in Donsdale over the weekend when Edmonton police opened fire during a domestic call; a man died. It's the kind of thing that hits harder when it's close to home. And over in St. Albert, a fire at an apartment complex evacuated nearly two dozen kids from a nearby daycare — everyone got out safe, but it's a reminder of how quickly things can shift.

If you're thinking about food today, there's some solid options. Sip Soda Co. is opening on Whyte Avenue this morning, and they're giving away free drinks for early arrivals — the kind of Monday thing that could be worth swinging by if you're in Old Scona anyway. Canada's first Hell's Kitchen opened today too, over in Enoch with Gordon Ramsay's signature menu if you're feeling something heavier. And if you've been missing Andy's Valleyview IGA in Parkview, it's back after two years away — same familiar spot, same name.

There's hip-hop at Double Dragon tonight at 8 — Casual and Pep Love from Hieroglyphics, with Asun Eastwood and Daniel Son on the bill. It's the kind of low-key Monday vibe that works if you want to get out but don't want to make a whole thing of it. Otherwise, it's a quiet one music-wise.

Stay warm out there. Coffee's calling.
