Sunday mild — catch the Oil, live music, or just breathe the air.
10 degrees, clear skies, and the city's got hockey, Chantal Kreviazuk, and some real talk about what's coming next.
It's a proper soft Sunday morning in E-town. We're sitting at 10 degrees with full sun and a UV index that'll catch you if you're out for hours — not brutal, but worth a hat if you're wandering. Sunset's at 7:38, so you've got a solid twelve hours of daylight to work with. Nothing's closing you out of your day, so plan accordingly.
On the local side, there's some real stuff brewing. The Oilers had a strong one yesterday — beat Winnipeg 5-2 in Babcock's first game behind the bench, and both Shea and Formenton made their mark. That said, there's been some pushback around the Formenton signing; over a hundred fans have made their feelings known outside Rogers Place. It's the kind of thing that'll simmer through the season. Meanwhile, the city's getting a celestial-themed park downtown with domes and constellation designs — that's a longer play, but it's happening.
If you're thinking Sunday lunch or dinner, there's some buzz worth knowing. Yves plant-based stuff is back on grocery shelves after being pulled, so that's sorted if you've been missing it. And if you want to get ahead of the curve, Hell's Kitchen's opening tomorrow in Enoch with Gordon Ramsay's thing — could be worth the trip. Coming up on the 23rd there's also a Dumpling Fest hitting Edmonton restaurants, so the food calendar's filling up. For today though, Sip Soda Co. just opened on Whyte with free drinks for early arrivals if you want to check it out.
For tonight, Chantal Kreviazuk's at River Cree Resort & Casino at 7:30 if you want live music and a bit of an evening out. It's warm enough to move between places without bundling up, but don't kid yourself — it'll cool down once the sun's gone, so bring a layer.
If hockey's more your speed, the Oil Kings are playing (Calgary's coming through), or you could catch the Okotoks Oilers at Spruce Grove at 2:00 at Thompson Family Arena if you want a different kind of game.
Bottom line: take the mild day. Get outside early, catch something tonight if it calls to you, and enjoy that we're not in the deep freeze yet.
