Friday's here—grab the weekend before it gets cold.

It's October, it's Friday, and it's noticeably colder than it was a few days ago. We're sitting at 1°C this morning, so you'll want the jacket—and hold onto it because the sun's down by 7:08 PM tonight. That's plenty of daylight to move around the city, but plan your evening now if you're heading out.

There's been some rough news this week. Twin Willows Golf Club is closing its doors after 61 years—but here's the silver lining: the turf's being donated to help Meadowview recover from the floods. Meanwhile, there's an ASIRT investigation underway into an alleged unprovoked police assault on a woman following a Fort Road incident, and a local teenager who was carjacked at gunpoint during a Facebook Marketplace sale earlier this month has lost their vehicle again. These are the kinds of stories that stick with you—keep an eye on how they develop.

On the business side, Island Brew Coffee House has closed after a couple of years. It's a reminder of how thin the margins can get for small shops in E-town right now. On a brighter note, if you've missed Yves plant-based products in the grocery aisle, they're coming back to Canadian shelves after being discontinued. And if you want something exciting to look forward to: Canada's first Hell's Kitchen—Gordon Ramsay's place—opens Monday over in Enoch with his signature dishes.

If you're planning the week's groceries, grab the Edmonton Grocery Price Match Cheat Sheet for October 1–7. You can save more than $13 across local stores if you play it right.

Tonight's the night to kick off the weekend properly. Oktoberfest is running at the ICE District—both at the Parkade and the Fan Park starting at 5:00 PM. It's the perfect way to ease into the weekend if you're after some beer, food, and people-watching. If live music's more your speed, The Shindigs and Zoo! are playing the Starlite Room at 7:30 PM, and there's also "Lunch At Allen's" at Winspear if you're leaning classical. Over at Foote Field, the Golden Bears Football team takes on Manitoba at 6:30 PM if you want to catch some U of A action.

Sherwood Park's kicking off October with a paint night, a medieval fair, and garlic planting workshops if you're looking to venture out to the Park.

Stay warm out there, and enjoy the weekend while you've got it.
