Tuesday Morning: Mild Start, Council Meeting, Live Music Tonight

Morning. It's a mild one out there—5 degrees, which honestly feels like a gift in October. You won't need the heavy coat yet, but grab a layer anyway; the sun's dropping earlier every day now, and you'll feel it once it hits 7 PM tonight. UV's low, so no sunscreen panic, but the daylight's already down to just over eleven hours. This is the stretch where Edmonton starts looking a bit grey, so soak in the natural light when you can.

Nothing major on the commute front, so you should be moving fine whether you're heading downtown, out to the U of A, or across town. Standard Tuesday rhythm.

A couple of things worth knowing today: council's voting on a utility fee increase that's going to sting some households more than others—if you're a big energy user, worth keeping an eye on what passes. Meanwhile, there's been real pushback on the infill zoning changes; hundreds showed up at Churchill Square over the weekend to make noise about it, so that conversation's still hot. On a lighter note, if you've been missing plant-based Yves products, they're back on the shelves now after being out of stock for a bit.

Food-wise, there's some movement. Vagabond Pop-ups just opened for dinner in Old Scona—they're taking over the old Wilfred's space in Wîhkwêntôwin, so if you've been curious about that crew, tonight's a good night to check it out. On the flip side, Island Brew Coffee House closed recently; they couldn't make the numbers work in Edmonton's small-business squeeze, which is something you're hearing from a lot of places right now.

If you're thinking about the evening, there's live music happening across town. MICO's doing the Running From A Feeling Tour at Midway Music Hall at 7, The Inspector Cluzo's at 99ten same time, and The Corps plus Me The Guts & Guests are at The Buckingham. So depending on your vibe—whether you want rock, alt, whatever—you've got options. None of it's crazy late, either, so easy enough to roll in after work.

Winter's creeping in, but we've got a bit of breathing room still. Make the most of today's mild stretch.

Stay warm out there.
