It's a cold one this morning, but plenty to get out for before Thanksgiving mode takes over.

Rodeo and live music before the deep freeze kicks in

It's 1°C out there this morning, so bundle up—we've dropped since yesterday and it's going to feel it. There's a Special Weather Statement in effect, so keep an eye on conditions as the day goes. You've got just under 11 hours of daylight to work with, and sunset's at 6:49 PM, so plan your evening around that if you're heading out.

Today's the kind of Saturday where you want to get moving before the weather tightens up. There's real stuff happening—the Canadian Finals Rodeo is running at Rogers Place starting at 11 AM, and if you're into live music, there's a full slate tonight from rock to the experimental end of things. The Starlite Room's got multiple shows going, so pick your crowd.

If you want something different before the dinner rush, How To Train Your Dragon 2 In Concert is on at the Jube at 2:00 PM—the Northern Alberta Jubilee's got a nice warm interior, and it's a solid Saturday afternoon if you've got family or just want to sit with a film and live orchestra. That's the kind of thing that fills an afternoon right.

On the food front, there's movement. Vagabond Pop-ups just opened for dinner service in Old Scona, taking over the old Wilfred's space in Wîhkwêntôwin—worth checking out if you're looking for something new. If you're more of a sweet-tooth situation, there's been real talk about the best cinnamon buns around the city, so if you've got a go-to spot, this might be the day to verify. And if you've been missing Yves plant-based products on the shelf, they're back in Canadian grocery stores after being discontinued—worth a look if that's your lane.

There's bigger stuff happening too. NAIT culinary students are prepping 60 turkeys for the Boyle Street Thanksgiving dinner, which speaks to what's coming down the pipe. Council's also locked in plans to make sure there's warm shelter for unhoused folks when the extreme cold really hits—that conversation matters as we head into the season.

Tonight, the rodeo keeps rolling at Rogers Place at 6:30 PM if you want the full cowboy experience, or catch live bands and released music if that's more your speed. It's the last weekend before Thanksgiving really takes hold, so this is the window to get out and do the things that don't fit in a travel week.

Stay warm out there.
