Wind's up, but 7°C feels like spring — get out while you can
Wrap up, watch for gusts on the commute, and slip out early if there's live music calling.
Morning. We're sitting at 7°C and it actually feels decent after the last stretch — but there's a wind warning in effect, so don't let the thermometer fool you. Pack layers and keep an eye on anything loose on your way in. Sunset's at 6:40, so there's a real evening to work with if you're planning ahead.
Commute-wise, there are some transit detours around 163 St and the surrounding blocks — Routes 671 and 678 are being rerouted while stops 5123 and 5364 are closed at 163 St & 99 Ave and 100 Ave southbound. If you're usually on those routes, give yourself a few extra minutes and check the ETS app for your actual stop.
On the local front: Royal Alex is cohort-isolating COVID patients on the same wards as the outbreak spreads, so if you've got appointments coming up, it's worth a call ahead to check what's changed. Also, the city's in a legal bind with the province over zoning — our mayor's taking it to court. Not something you'll feel today, but it's the kind of thing that shapes what gets built where in E-town for years.
If you're hungry, there's new blood worth checking: a proper Korean diner just opened up, and if you want to try something different, Iron Hive's got Alberta honey meads that are a good gateway into that whole world — way less intimidating than it sounds. Vagabond Pop-ups is also back for dinner service in the spot Wilfred's used to hold in Wîhkwêntôwin.
Tonight's got some proper entertainment if you can bail early. Danny Bhoy's doing comedy at the Myer Horowitz at 7:30, and The Zolas are at the Starlite Room at 8 with their Swooner anniversary tour — live rock if that's more your speed. Both are solid, and with the sun going down before 7, you won't feel bad slipping out.
Stay warm out there, and watch those gusts.
