Thursday gets crisp—bundle up for the commute and the Oil tonight.

Wake up to actual fall weather—we've dropped back to 1°C after a gentler run, so layer up if you're heading out. The sun's down by 6:38 PM, so plan your evening around that if you're doing anything outdoors.

If you're taking the LRT or catching a bus through Century Park this morning, Routes 718 and 729 are running detours between Rabbit Hill Road and the transit centre. Nothing dramatic, but give yourself a few extra minutes if you're usually tight on time.

On the bigger local front: nearly 175,000 Albertans voted on the first day of advance polling for the referendum coming up on the 19th. Turns out a lot of people are using AI to dig into the questions beforehand—which tells you something about how much thinking this one's getting. And there's a serious story in the news cycle this morning about a baby critically injured when someone raced a motorcycle into a bus shelter; one person died. It's the kind of thing that lands heavy on a Thursday morning.

If you're looking for lunch or dinner, Nomiya's reborn as Nom over on Calgary Trail with a more elevated take on Japanese dining. If you're curious about something a bit different, there's Iron Hive's Alberta honey meads—they're designed to be approachable if you've never tried mead before. Vagabond Pop-ups also opened for dinner service in the old Wilfred's space at Wîhkwêntôwin. Fair warning, though: Island Brew on the Ave closed their doors after a couple of years—small-business squeeze hitting hard these days.

Tonight's got real options. The Oilers are home at Rogers Place at 7:00 PM against Utah, which is the marquee if you're watching. If live comedy's more your speed, there's Jiaoying Summers at Rick Bronson's (7:30 PM), Danny Bhoy at the Myer Horowitz (7:30 PM), or The East Pointers doing country folk over at the Arden Theatre, also 7:30. Pick your vibe—comedy, hockey, or live music. All indoors, so the cold won't bother you.

Stay warm out there. See you tonight.
