Saturday's mild—get out and do something.
Seven degrees, live music, pickles, and UFC. Pick your lane and move.
Morning. It's 7°C out there and genuinely pleasant for mid-October—we've had worse. Sun sets at 6:33 PM, so you've got a proper window to be outside if you want it. UV's low (2.0), so no drama there.
One heads-up on the roads: Route 908's got a detour running today from 166A St & 109 Ave eastbound over to 169 St & 107 Ave westbound. Nothing catastrophic, but if that's your regular Saturday haul, know it's coming.
Politics-wise, Mark Carney wrapped a pro-Canada tour at the Expo Centre yesterday with thousands showing up. Separate from that, new Alberta referendum polling's out showing majorities in both Calgary and E-town backing voter ID and immigration measures—worth knowing where the local pulse sits on both. Separately, there was a fatal shooting at a northwest Edmonton trades college, and a 21-year-old was killed in a street racing crash at a bus shelter. Heavy stuff.
If you're hungry, there's fresh ground worth checking. Elio's just opened on the south side slinging Filipino comfort food with a real gathering vibe. If you're into ramen, Nomiya's reborn as Nom over on Calgary Trail—elevated Japanese dining now. Iron Hive's been making Alberta honey meads that actually feel accessible to people new to the drink, and Vagabond Pop-ups is doing dinner service in the space Wilfred's used to hold at Wîhkwêntôwin. Plenty of options if you want to try something.
For daytime stuff, Picklefest Edmonton 2026 is happening at Fan Park in the Ice District starting at 11:00 AM—if you're into that kind of thing, it's a straightforward vibe. UFC Fight Night (Buckley v Malott) is at Rogers Place at 3:00 PM if you want to catch that live. River Cree's running a Super Bingo at 1:00 PM if that's your speed.
When the sun goes down, you've got options. Moontricks is at Midway Music Hall at 7:00 PM, Jiaoying Summers is doing comedy at Rick Bronson's The Comic Strip at 7:00 PM, and Tallboy's got Panic Pixie, Chase The Bear, Messages, and Kasia at The Starlite Room at 7:00 PM. Live music and comedy packed into one Saturday night—get out if you can.
Enjoy the mild. Won't last.
