Foggy Sunday in E-town, so get indoors and get cozy

Morning, Edmonton. It's a sleepy one out there: -5°C, feeling closer to -6, and a Fog Advisory is in effect, so give yourself some extra time if you're heading anywhere before the sun gets up over the river valley. Visibility is the thing to watch today, not the cold, so take your time on the roads and leave a little more space than you think you need. Sunset comes at 6:01 this evening, which gives you about nine and a half hours of daylight, and with the fog hanging around, you'll want to keep your lights on early.

If you're planning to be out on the roads, the bigger picture is that the High Level Bridge is closing to traffic next year for a full construction season, so if you've been counting on it for your regular route, start thinking about your alternate now. And for those of you who will be shoveling soon, the city is asking everyone to follow parking bans as snow removal season kicks off, so keep an eye out for those signs on your street.

There's a fair bit moving around town this November. Twenty-four places in Edmonton are hiring for hundreds of jobs this month, which is good news if you're on the lookout. Over in Alberta politics, the chief electoral officer is asking for boundary changes to be delayed or the 2027 election pushed back, so that's one to keep an ear on. And if you've ever driven past that dormant high-rise site at 121 Street and 102 Avenue and wondered what might happen to it, it's now listed for $4 million.

For food, there's some good news in the neighbourhoods. Hazeldean Bakery is reopening in south Edmonton with hundreds of people welcoming the new owners, which is the kind of thing that makes a Sunday morning feel right. Elio's has opened on the south side with Filipino comfort food and a real gathering feel, so that's a solid pick for a lunch or dinner with people you like. Westblock Glenora Ayco Cafe is one of the new spots that's opened around the city and is worth a visit if you're out and about. On the flip side, Paperbirch by Chartrand is closing at the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market after two years, so if you've been meaning to stop in, don't wait too long.

Tonight is a good night to stay indoors and enjoy the city's live shows. The Great Gatsby - The Musical is playing at the Shoctor Theatre at the Citadel at 8:30, and if you're after something a little earlier in the day, The Composer Is Dead is on at the Winspear Centre at 3:30. Hockey fans, the Oil Kings are on the ice this weekend, so check the schedule and grab a seat. And if you're feeling a bit of a mood for the Elks, the CFL Western Semi-Final is on at Commonwealth Stadium, with kickoff time still to be confirmed.

Stay warm out there, Edmonton. Take it slow on the roads, bring a good book or a friend along to the theatre, and remember that a little fog is no reason to stay home.
