Tuesday's Warmer Than It Has Any Right to Be, E-town

Morning, Edmonton. It's a Tuesday, and after the cold we've been putting up with, three degrees feels almost generous. The UV is sitting at a 1, so there's no sunscreen emergency, but you'll want a jacket that zips all the way up if you're out waiting for a bus. The sun sets at 5:57 this evening, so you're getting about nine hours of daylight to work with. Plan your errands for the afternoon and you'll be home before the dark rolls in.

On the roads, the detours on Route 051 and Route 106 are still in place for the 132 Avenue work, and they're set to head back to 132 Avenue on October 19th. If you're on either route, give yourself a few extra minutes and don't trust your memory of the old stops.

Around town, Spencer Beach's story about offering hope to soldiers injured in the CFB Wainwright fire is the one that's been sticking with people this morning. It's a hard read, but a good one. On the hockey side, Connor Brown has had a rough start with New Jersey, and Nugent-Hopkins is close to passing Kevin Lowe as the Oilers' all-time games leader, which is a nice bit of history for the fans to chew on. And if you missed it, the fog that sat over the city all day Sunday grounded flights, which is about as unusual as Edmonton weather gets.

For lunch or a bite after work, the food news is worth knowing. Hazeldean Bakery has reopened in south Edmonton with new owners, and the neighbourhood showed up in force to welcome them back. Elio's has also opened on the south side, serving Filipino comfort food with a real gathering feel to it, which sounds exactly right for a cold November evening. Westblock Glenora Ayco Cafe is another new spot worth a look if you're in the west end. Also, Paperbirch by Chartrand is closing its Old Strathcona Farmers' Market stall after two years, so if you've been meaning to get there, this is the week.

Tonight, the big draw is The Great Gatsby - The Musical at the Shoctor Theatre in the Citadel, curtain at 8:30. It's indoors, so the weather doesn't matter, and a Tuesday night at the theatre beats the couch. If you're more of a live-music person, there's plenty happening around town too. Looking ahead, the weekend brings live music, hockey, and a symphony, including the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra's Bach, Zappa & Beyond, so there's no shortage of reasons to get out of the house.

Have a good one, and bundle up, E-town. We'll see you tomorrow.
