PlayWright, the casual fine-dining restaurant inside Citadel Theatre, has closed after nearly two years of operation.
The team announced the closure on Instagram, citing "operational difficulties." "After a lot of hard work, long nights, and fighting through some incredibly difficult operating conditions, PlayWright has closed its doors," they wrote. "We're proud of what we created; it definitely wasn't perfect, but we tried, even if the conditions around us made it impossible to continue."
The restaurant was a fixture in the arts district, offering a vibrant space to grab a meal before or after a show. Its closure removes one of Edmonton's notable dining options near the theatre.
The good news: Ghostlight, PlayWright's sister café, will continue operating at the Citadel. The team encouraged patrons to support Ghostlight, especially in the wake of PlayWright's closure.
