A 16-year-old girl was found dead after a shooting in northeast Edmonton early Sunday morning, August 16. Police responded to reports of gunfire around 6:50 a.m. near 139 Avenue and 32 Street. Officers arrived to find the girl seriously injured; she was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The Edmonton Police Service homicide unit has taken over the investigation and is treating the death as suspicious. Police have not disclosed the circumstances of the shooting or whether any suspects have been identified.

In early August, a woman was stabbed to death at an Edmonton women's shelter. In June, a four-year-old girl was killed in a north Edmonton collision.
